Update of the SEPA Format Structure
As part of the new regulatory requirements defined by the European Payments Council (EPC), an update to the Customer-to-Payment Service Provider (C2PSP) manual was published on the Banco de Portugal website. This update defines the new ISO 20022 XML message formats, to be implemented by October 5, 2025.
However, not all banks are communicating this requirement in the same way. Therefore, it is essential that each company confirm directly with their banks whether the adoption of the new formats will be required.

SEPA Credit Transfer
• New mandatory format: pain.001.001.09
• Replaces: pain.001.001.03
SEPA Direct Debit
• New mandatory format: pain.008.001.08
• Replaces: pain.008.001.02
