With the beginning of the year, the State Budget came into force, having already published a set of measures with an impact at the labor level. This information summarizes the measures that imply changes in the level of wage processing in the NAVHR, as of January.
Minimum Guaranteed Monthly Remuneration Mainland Portugal [Decree-Law No. 109-A/2020]
For Mainland Portugal, the minimum guaranteed monthly wage (RMMG) is updated from €635.00 to €665.00, as of January 1, 2021, pursuant to the Decree-Law No. 109-A/2020 – Diário da República No. 253/2020, 3rd Supplement, Series I 2020-12-31.
As a result of the progress of the RMMG, the steps of the Single Remuneration Table (TRU) that are below this value should converge to the RMMG value for 2021.
Minimum Monthly Remuneration Guaranteed Autonomous Region of the Azores
In the Autonomous Region of the Azores, the value of the RMMG in 2021 will be €698.25, an amount resulting from the national value plus 5%, pursuant to the provisions of Regional Legislative Decree No. 8/2002/A, of April 10.
Minimum Guaranteed Monthly Remuneration Autonomous Region of Madeira
We are awaiting the establishment by the Regional Government of Madeira of the value of the RMMG to be in force for this Autonomous Region in 2021.
Meal Allowance [Law No. 114/2017]
According to article 21 of the Law No. 114/2017 of December 29 – Diário da República No. 249/2017, Series I of 12/29/2017, it is established that the value of the meal subsidy is set at €4.77 from August 1, 2017 (under the terms of Law No. 42/2016, of December 28) is the reference value for taxation purposes. The 60% increase of these values is maintained whenever the respective subsidy is granted through meal vouchers.
Consequently, the value of the meal subsidy not subject to IRS, when it is paid through meal vouchers, remains at €7.63.
Social Support Index – IAS [Ordinance No. 27/2020]
As a rule, the Social Support Index (IAS) is updated in January, based on GDP and inflation. It serves as a reference for the various social support provided by the Portuguese State. In 2021, the value of the IAS is €438.81, remaining the same as the previous year, under the terms of Ordinance nº27/2020, of January 31.
