DO COMPANIES CAPTURE OR CREATE TALENT?

Because managing talent is a fashionable expression and one of the most important premises of current management, it is worth reflecting on how we detect talent. Is talent innate or can it be cultivated? Do organizations, per se, create talent or create conditions for them to develop?

Because managing talent is a fashionable expression and one of the most important premises of current management, it is worth reflecting on how we detect talent.

Is talent innate or can it be cultivated? Do organizations, per se, create talent or create conditions for them to develop?

Attracting and recruiting new elements is a task that takes up more than 50% of Human Resources professionals’ time and perhaps the one that presents the most challenges for the HR Manager. And of these challenges, we have the scarcity of resources in some areas, the change in the mindset of young people, the adaptation of older people to the digitalization of the business, the emergence of new business models, the need for multigenerational management and the capacity of companies to create ’employer branding’.

Because talent, as an internal appetite, needs to be stimulated, organizations must develop practices that foster excellent performance and the emergence of new and constant talent. And here perhaps lies one of the ways organizations can overcome some of the difficulties in recruiting.

Gone are the days when, above all, technical competence was valued, now, other factors are taken into account, such as teamwork, degree of involvement, communication skills or determination and proactivity in the execution of new tasks.

Of course there are people who are born with exceptional abilities, which make them stand out among many, but good professionals with talent are everywhere and it is up to organizations to create mechanisms to discover them.

So how can companies create talent and not just capture them?

I leave here some suggestions:

  • Provide training and personal development;
  • Be aware of the needs of your teams;
  • Retain through internal mobility;
  • Adopt compensation systems based on performance systems;
  • Promote creativity;
  • Design internal communication flows that are really effective;
  • Create an organizational culture that promotes well-being and encourages good relationships in work teams.

How does your organization capture and create your talents? Be sure to share your vision!
