MICROSOFT STOPPED BASIC SUPPORT FOR DYNAMICS NAV

In today’s fast changing world it is not convenient to use outdated IT tools. Because how does your organization manage to meet the ever-increasing demands of your customers? As of now, Microsoft no longer provides basic support for all versions of her Dynamics NAV on-premise (aka Navision) ERP solution. This means that no security updates are distributed anymore. So as a Dynamics NAV user you run the increased risk of cyber security cases. It’s probably time for action.

According to Microsoft’s formal lifecycle policy, each version of her Dynamics NAV solutions receives 10 years of support. That period is broken down into 5 years of basic support and another 5 years of extended support.

So what is the difference between these two types of support?

  • Basic support. This includes providing new functionalities, security related updates and non-security related updates. Customers with a maintenance contract will also be provided with the important updates required for adapted laws and regulations, such as the AVG. This support has disappeared for all NAV versions from the beginning of 2023.
  • Extended support. Dynamics NAV customers with extended support will only receive security related updates. So no more new functionalities and innovations. Today, this additional service is only available for organizations working with Dynamics NAV version 2015 to version 2018. Users of versions older than Dynamics NAV 2015 fall outside all applicable support rules!

Dynamics NAV 2018 is the last NAV version that recently moved from basis to extended support. So it is important to realize that even with extended support you’re already in the ‘extra time’ of your usage phase.

When you think about your migration plans, don’t forget to take into account that a transition can easily take 6 to 12 months. You should certainly also take into account that many implementation partners are currently very busy. And that the required capacity for your project is therefore not immediately available.

As a professional organization, can you afford to use an ERP system with only minimal or no support at all?

Microsoft is currently offering NAV customers with a maintenance contract attractive discounts to switch to Business Central. So do not wait any longer and contact us today to discuss the possibilities without any obligation.
